Not that long ago people could actually do things without Googling them or looking at them on on the internet first.  Or you had to learn how to do them hands-on.  In other words, your grandparents had a whole set of skills your kids will probably never know.  Do you know how to do all these?

According to a new survey of 2,000 people, here are the ten traditional skills that are dying out :

1.  Reading a map. (Hello Google Street Maps)

2.  Using a compass. (Hello, smartphone)

3.  Knowing how to tie different knots.

4.  Darning socks, which means fixing holes in them.  Most young people don't even know "darning" is a word, let alone how to darn a sock.

5.  Looking something up in a book by using the index.

6.  Knowing how to format a letter.  (That's right, you don't start a letter with Yo, Sup?)

7.  Knowing measurement conversions, like there are four quarts in a gallon.

8.  Spelling and grammar.  (spell check said I spelled grammar correctly)

9.  Building a fire.  ( I just flip the switch on the fireplace)

10.  Having good penmanship, because no one writes anything anymore.

Any other skills that you notice are dying out?
