A professional surfer named Mick Fanning was attacked by a shark on live TV during a tournament in South Africa on Sunday.

The camera happened to be filming him while he was waiting for a wave, and you could see the shark's fin come out of the water.

Then there was a lot of splashing and thrashing and it looked, for a moment, like the shark had pulled him under.  But he punched it in the back and it swam off.

The shark didn't bite him, it got caught on the rope that was attached to his board and snapped it.

Not surprisingly, tournament officials decided to cancel the rest of the tournament.
