The Boise River is the Treasure of the Treasure Valley. Thousands of families and individuals enjoy (fishing, rafting, etc) the river and play along its banks each year. It’s most heavily used River in the state for recreation. But not everyone who enjoys the river takes care of it, and every summer a great deal of trash is left in and along the Boise.

RiverSweep is our community commitment to maintaining a healthy and clean BoiseRiver.

RiverSweep is a partnership between various counties, cities, corporations and nonprofit groups across the Treasure Valley who love and enjoy the Boise River. The river belongs to everyone, and it’s exciting to have downstream and upstream communities strengthen their commitment to a healthy Boise River.

This is the 13th year of the annual fall event, where hundreds of volunteers work along the banks and in the channel of the Boise River to pick up litter.

Along with recreation, the Boise River provides up to 30% of the drinking water for Boise residents and it’s important we protect this valuable resource.

The clean-up stretches from Barber Park and extends 40 miles downstream to the Snake River (near Parma).

The official mascot of the event is the Boise Riversweep “Can Man.”  Six and a half feet tall, 1,500 cans strong, the sculpture stands as a symbol of why it is important to clean up and keep clean the Boise River. The Can Man owes his existence to several volunteers, who constructed him from aluminum cans that were collected during previous Riversweeps and other clean-up efforts along the Boise River.
