Boise veteran Charlie Linville, who climbed Mount Everest last week, has made it safely back to the advance base camp.

On Thursday, he became the first combat amputee to reach the summit of the world's highest mountain.

While it was cause for celebration, Linville still had to descend the mountain, which is just as dangerous as the ascent. In fact, three climbers have died in the last three days attempting to descend the mountain.

Linville has attempted to make this climb a couple of times unsuccessfully due to an earthquake and then an avalanche.

The Heroes Project, which sponsored his expedition, says Charlie and his team are healthy and are taking a few days to rest before they descend to the lower base camp.

They could return home as early as next week.
