Wedding season is in full swing in Idaho. Tough decisions by engaged couples will be made in the Gem State over the next several weeks regarding whether or not to include family in the process, and there's a reason for this.

Weddings are supposed to be about the bride and groom. Often, the anxiety of making family and friends happy takes center stage, and some people opt to pack bags and take off for a wedding that is far less stressful.

As someone who did elope, I still support the decision we made to this day. We enjoyed an amazing experience on the North Shore of Oahu that I will remember until the day I die, and the ceremony was just about us.

According to the website Amanda Matilda Photography, there are eight main reasons why couples choose to elope. Distractions and stress (family drama), along with a lack of intimacy are a couple that were listed on the AMP website.

Other reasons include adventure seeking and a desire to travel, simplicity, cost, avoiding attention, authenticity, and focusing on the wedding versus 'the event', were also included in the top reasons to elope list.

Family drama and money I have found to be the two big ones that deter couples from hosting a traditional wedding. The experience should be planned by the couples, and loved ones should respect this decision.
