This probably goes without saying, but anytime you decide to go out on a hike, you're taking an innate risk. Wild animals, inclement weather, other weird hikers out to do you harm. There's a bunch of scary stuff out there to be aware of.

What's going on?

Over the weekend, in Nez Perce County, a woman passed away while hiking in north Idaho. More specifically, about 4 miles east of Highway 95 at a railroad tunnel.

How did the woman pass away?

While hiking, the woman was struck on the head by a falling rock. Despite the best efforts of emergency staff, she sadly passed away on the trail.

How can I stay safe?

Luckily, there are plenty of resources online with guidelines about how one should consider their safety while on hike. Sure, it sounds like common sense to say "Watch out for falling rocks," but it isn't quite that simple.
