Saturday, August 13th was a great day for kids in the Treasure Valley as the "A Step Ahead" campaign launched for the first year.  From 11:00 O'clock in the morning until 7:00 in the evening, Central Elementary School in Nampa was bustling. Gathered at the school were families from all over the Treasure Valley-- Caldwell, Nampa, Meridian, Eagle, Kuna, Boise and some, even from as far as Grandview, Idaho.

A lot was happening at the school that day but the chart topper for most, was the availability of FREE haircuts!  With the rising cost of literally everything these days, the free haircuts were blessing for many students of all ages. Many adult college students were even able to get a free haircut!

All of the hair styling was provided to the public courtesy of Paul Mitchell The School and their two locations--in Boise and Nampa. They really stepped up for their community.

Project Filter provided literature for students and families about the dangers of tobacco and vaping, while Idaho Central Credit Union, the title sponsor of the event, made access to banking and financial assistance a breeze. Part of being "A Step Ahead" has to do with financial literacy at a young age, as well-- not just a haircut!

Event organizers shared that they do plan to hold the event again next year, seeing that a need was certainly met in the community. Well over 200 students were able to receive back-to-school haircuts prior to classes starting this week.

These Idaho Bears Are Melting Hearts Everywhere

You probably already know that Idaho is home to plenty of bears-- but how often do you get to see them? When it comes to baby bears, there are even fewer chances--an encounter with them in the wild could cause the need for an aggressive escape from a looming mama bear.

Idaho Black Bear Rescue does an amazing job of sharing photos and videos from their refuge where baby bears are the stars!
