Oh, the first day of school. What kind of nostalgia does that bring back for you? You're seeing friends that you may not have seen all summer, seeing kids that perhaps you don't like too much, and you're about to learn all sorts of new things from new teachers. It can be stressful, starting out a new school year. For kids, all sorts of things are running through their minds and in this day in age when it's all about what you have and how you look on social media, many kids are left feeling behind.

On Saturday, August 13th, "A Step Ahead" will be taking place in Nampa at Central Elementary School--hoping to help kids get a step ahead into the school year feeling equal to their peers and confident in themselves.

Studies consistently show that confidence, or lack thereof, can make the biggest of impacts in student performance during the school year. It's heartbreaking to think that there are kids right here in the Treasure Valley that avoid going to school because of embarrassment for what they don't have or how they don't look.

The playing field is going to be made a little more even because of A Step Ahead.

Thanks to ICCU and Paul Mitchell Schools, free haircuts will be provided to ANY student of ANY age Saturday, August 13th. Below are the details:

  • Haircuts are available 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
  • Stylists will be located inside of Central Elementary School's gymnasium in Nampa
