How To Help Idaho Firefighter Injured In Accident Fighting Fires
This wildfire season has been dangerous, and amidst our daily routines, it can be easy to overlook the heroes are on the frontline keeping us safe.
While many of us worry about the daily challenges we face at work, with our kids, school, etc... not many of us have to worry about coming home safely to our families.
A Hero Injured On The Frontline
When you're a first responder, danger is lurking at every turn and this is especially true for firefighters combating the wildfires in Idaho and surrounding areas. We're all aware of how toxic the air can be but then there are other hazards that could come out of nowhere.
This is the unfortunate case for wildland firefighter, Justin "Riley" Shaw, a 26-year-old who was born and raised in Idaho. While he was keeping us safe and fighting the fires in central Idaho, Shaw had a "life-altering accident" on August 10. According to his GoFundMe page:
Justin “Riley” Shaw - a 26-year-old dedicated wildland firefighter and proud Christian born and raised in Idaho, was unfortunately in a life-altering accident on 8/10/24 when he was arriving at the scene of a fire in central Idaho and had a tree fall on him.
As a result of this tragic accident, Riley is currently recovering from "a traumatic brain injury" in the ICU and according to the family, he'll be recovering for some time.
Riley's family is now asking for the community's help to alleviate financial stress while they commute between Spokane, Washington, and Boise. They're looking to raise $75,000 through their GoFundMe but we have no doubt our community will rise and exceed the support they're asking for.
You can learn more about Riley and donate here. We're keeping Riley and his family in our prayers.
