Idaho Hunters Just Got Some Really Good News
Maybe it's because of everything going on around the country and the world, but good news these days feels better than ever. Idaho has been at the mercy of a brutal wildfire season lately and it's nice to know that something good is happening for lovers of the great outdoors.
Hold onto your hats, hunters! This season's about to get good!
With hunting season kicking off and cooler temperatures arriving, it's good to be a hunter in Idaho right now - especially if you're hunting upland game birds.
Upland game birds in Idaho include mountain quail, wild turkeys, and mourning doves just to name a few. Idaho Fish & Game says that the conditions are very similar to last year... and this is good for hunters.
"Weather during late spring and early summer were quite similar to the previous two years. However, there was more precipitation coming into the nesting season and it was a bit warmer this year,” Idaho Fish and Game Upland Game and Migratory Game Bird Coordinator (what a title!) Jeff Knetter said.
“These conditions provided quality nesting and brood-rearing habitat. July was exceptionally hot and dry, but early reports suggest many species fared better than anticipated."
IDFG says that thanks to the hot and dry conditions, "birds will likely be hanging out around water sources early in the season."
It might not be the "best" news but hey, good news can be hard to find these days! You can check out a full in-depth upland game bird forecast on Idaho Fish & Game's website here.
Now, let your buddies know it's time to get the gear and head out for some bird!
