Do you know what baby anteaters are called?  Not cubs, calves, or joeys. They're pups. And Zoo Boise has a new one.

The baby anteater was born on July 6th, and KTVB.com says the pup has been inside, sheltered for most of that time with his mother, Gloria.  But now the pup is starting to venture out a little more, and if you go to the zoo you just might see him.

He gets to ride around on his mother's back for about a year, which is nature's way of helping the mother protect her young.  The pup blends in with the mother that way, and fools predators into thinking there's nothing for them.  What predator would mess with a Mama anyway?  Moms can lift minivans off of their young when the adrenolyn starts pumping.  Moms are superheros.  But I bet Gloria secretly wishes this pup would quit climbing on her sometimes and go play with his Paw Patrol toys instead.  Sometimes Mama needs a break.

This is interesting too.  Gloria and the pup aren't living with the baby daddy.  The zoo says anteaters are solitary creatures, and the male anteater is living in an exhibit next door to Gloria and the pup.  Perhaps the truth is he snores, and Gloria sent him to that separate place?  She got to sleep when the baby sleeps after all.

Zoo Boise is in Julia Davis Park, and it's open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. every day until Labor Day.  Let us know if you see that anteater pup.  And congrats to the zoo on a super cool birth!
