Mondays are not going away anytime soon and yet they don't seem to get any easier. I have found some tips that I think will make the beginning of the week a little smoother.

I don't think it matters if you get up at 3am like I do or the alarm goes off at 7:30am, Mondays are tough. No matter how good the coffee, the beginning of the work week is not something most look forward to. The weekend seems so far way and days leading up to it seem long and full of way too many things to get done. So I've come up with some ideas on how to make Monday a little more bearable.

MONDAY MOTIVATION: Detach from Friday to Monday. Avoid checking work e-mail or voicemail over the weekend. Work on clearly defining these boundaries. When you leave the office, leave the office, the emails, the text, the voice mails, the power points...all of it.

This seems almost impossible these days with smartphones and the entire world being at our fingertips. But by doing this we can truly unplug from our work life. I'm envious of the days where it was considered beyond rude to call someone after 5pm or on the weekend. The majority of us are not brain surgeons so what is so important that it has to be dealt with during your kid's football on Saturday morning?

To make this shift we all need to set these boundaries and then hopefully the world will shift back towards the time where the weekends were for family and friends and personal downtime. The reason Monday is so tough right now and maybe even worse than it's ever been, is because we never shut off over the weekend. Our brain is constantly on work-mode. We physically and mentally need a break to recharge. That way, Monday won't seem like such a struggle.  You might even look forward to going to work! Call me crazy!

I'm going to share one tip every Monday. Let's try and focus on one change each week and not overwhelm ourselves with a giant list that just gets lost in the mix with the other 80 emails in our inbox. I know it's Monday but I hope this upcoming weekend you can detach and really enjoy yourself.
