Devon probably reminds you of your daughter, niece or grand daughter.  Like many 8th grade girls, she loves animals, softball, basketball and Heartland.

But unlike many 8th grade girls, Devon's fighting blood cancer.  After a fun summer at Camp Rainbow Gold, Devon's family received the news that her Acute Myeloid Leukemia had returned.  According to her doctors, Devon's best course of treatment is receiving a life saving bone marrow transplant. Like 70% of blood cancer patients in the United States, Devon wasn't able to find a donor in her family that was a complete match.

That's why her mom reached out to Devon's camp family from Camp Rainbow Gold.  If you're not familiar with Camp Rainbow Gold, they are one of the most incredible organizations in our community. They provide summer camps to children suffering from cancer (and their siblings) for free.  The camps empower the kids and give them a chance to feel like normal kids rather than cancer patients for a few days every summer.

Camp Rainbow Gold is putting together a multi-location "Be the Match" event on Monday, September 25th to help Devon find a bone marrow donor in the state of Idaho.  By stopping at one of the locations for less than five minutes and having your cheek swabbed, you could literally save this little girl's life!

I caught up with Camp Rainbow Gold's Executive Director, Elizabeth Challenger-Lizberg, to find out more about the event and what it takes to become a bone marrow donor.  Check out this video to hear more about how YOU can make a huge difference not just for Devon, but possibly one of the other 14,000 patients in the US that can't find a match.
