What Does The Extra Eyelets on Your Shoes Do?

I've been wearing shoes my whole life and I never knew what the extra eyelets at the top of my shoes were for, that is until now.

We like to say on our Mike and Kate show, that you can learn something new every morning.  This is one of those things that I learned today.  Maybe if you are a runner you already knew this.  I really have wondered over my lifetime what the extra eyelets at the top of my show was for.  In the past I have tried to lace them all the way to the top, but it was very uncomfortable and looked goofy.

Little did I know there is an actual use for the extra eyelet as demonstrated in this video.
