One of my many adventures in the Basque Country was the Vizcaya Bridge that literally hangs over the river. I was told my locals that I had to experience it. As you will see, I took the scaredy cat way.

The Vizcaya Bridge or as locals call it, Puente Colgante, crosses the Nervion River just outside Bilbao. Ysabel's cousin Iban insisted that this was a must see for me while in the Basque Country. When I heard "hanging bridge" all I could picture was the rope bridge I had to walk across in Costa Rica (I sucked my thumb and cried like a girl the entire time). Now I did have the option of walking across this bridge but the walkway is 164 feet above the water and I knew if Ysabel and I got up there, I would end up sucking my thumb and crawling on my hands and knees. So we stayed in the car with Iban and let the bridge carry us in a car across the river. Now I can say that I have been on the only Basque Monument to be on the World Heritage Site.
