With 80 percent of us eating pizza once a month and Boise being a foodie city, it's a prime spot for pizza restaurants. Yay! And we have three new ones opening before the first of the year.

1. Americana Pizza - 304 S. Americana Blvd.

Americana Pizza is taking over the spot on South Americana Blvd. that used to be Reel Foods.  Max Lillie is the entrepreneur behind it, and he runs Gem Street Kitchen food truck in Boise too.  Americana Pizza will be next to Rhodes Skate Park and it will sell jumbo slices for $3 on paper plates so skaters can walk right back to the park if they want.  Boise Weekly said the pies will be "massive and high quality" with artisan dough and San Marzano tomatoes imported from Italy.  They'll use a cornmeal crust too, and Lillie said is a first for Idaho.  Americana Pizza will open sometime between now and January 1.

2.  Spitfire Craft Pizza - 2450 South Vista Avenue

Spitfire Craft Pizza just opened on the Boise Bench and will specialize in Detroit-style pizza.  If Chicago pizza is deep-dish and round and New York's is flat and foldable, Detroit's is baked in rectangular pans and piled high with toppings.  Spitfire will bury the toppings under the cheese and put the sauce on top which is similar to Chicago-style, but this will have a much thicker crust.  And it will have crispy aged cheddar around the edges of the crust which they call the "grilled cheese effect," and probably means there will probably never be any leftover crust on the plate.  They'll have hand-tossed pizzas too if a thick crust isn't your thing.  The official grand opening runs through Saturday.

3.  Firenza Pizza - 999 W. Main Street on the southeast corner of One Capital Center
Firenza Pizza opened yesterday in downtown Boise and it's the first location in Idaho for the chain. It's on the first floor of the CenturyLink building downtown above what used to be Angell's Bar and Grill Renato.  They're baking the pies directly on a stone hearth at over 800 degrees at the dome, and it cooks the thin crust in under three minutes so you're going to get it fast.  To celebrate the grand opening this week they've got 10-inch pies for five dollars through Saturday if you have the Firenza app. And the first 10 customers in line Saturday win two free 10-inch pizzas per month for a year.
Each of these new spots offers something a little different so no matter what sort of craving strikes one of them will be able to hit it.
In 2017, there were 75,243 pizza restaurants in the U.S., and if the rest of the country is eating that much pie we can always handle a few more good pizza restaurants in Boise, right?  Yum.
Congrats on the openings everybody.
