How weird is too weird? How freaky too freaky? At what point does charm call out for ridicule? These are the questions that arise when considering the new "sport" of chessboxing.

Picture this, you walk into a crowded auditorium…as you find your seat and settle in you watch as two men sit intently staring at a chess board, alternating moves …you hear the hushed ooos and ahhhs as each player makes their moves and you think to yourself, what the hell am I doing sitting here watching two sweaty men play chess

But then a bell rings and the hall fills with loud music. There are hoots and yells from the darkened sections of seats  The crowd goes nuts, and then the bell rings once more and you notice the chess players have begun to punch each other in the face and body. There is blood and sweat flying everywhere.

Welcome to the new game of Chessboxing.  No, this is not a late April Fools joke, this is a real thing.  As a matter of fact you can be a part of the WCBA.  (World Chess Boxing Association) and they are looking for chessboxers right now

The USA Chessboxing team is looking for Amateur Boxers who want to represent the United States in Chessboxing. Chessboxing is a hybrid sport that combines 3 minutes of chess with 3 minutes of boxing in alternating rounds, ending with a checkmate or a knockout, whichever comes first.

They are looking for amateur boxers who can commit to 6 hours of world class chess training per week, divided into two hours sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They will then compete for a chance to represent the U.S in as chessboxing tournament.
