Choose life, then choose Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Wait, that doesn’t sound right… this must be the Trainspotting sequel.

The first full trailer has arrived for T2 Trainspotting, the sequel to Danny Boyle’s 1996 film, and it’s full of mayhem. Ewan McGregor’s Renton reunites with Jonny Lee Miller’s Sick Boy (has this guy even aged?), and then the old gang gets back together with Robert Carlyle’s Begbie and Ewen Bremmer’s Spud. Diane (Kelly Macdonald) is back too, asking Renton if he’s still doing heroin – he says no, but this is a Trainspotting movie, and by god, drugs will be consumed! What follows is some drug-taking, Spud literally falling off a building, Renton riding on top of a car, and a whole bunch of crazy antics.

Boyle’s sequel reunites the director with the cast and the original screenwriter John Hodges. T2 – this weird title has stuck, apparently – is loosely based on the sequel to Irving Welsh’s Trainspotting novel, Porno, but while that finds the gang reuniting 10 years later, T2 doubles that time frame. Here’s the full synopsis:

First there was an opportunity......then there was a betrayal.
Twenty years have gone by.
Much has changed but just as much remains the same.
Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home.
They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle).
Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.

The new movie will open right around the 20th anniversary of the first film on January 27, 2017.
