Every 19 seconds a woman somewhere in the world gets diagnosed with breast cancer and every 60 seconds a woman loses her fight. This cancer is invasive. It knows no bounds - affecting people regardless of age, gender, location, and socio-economic status. It is estimated that 1 in 8 US women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime and over 13 million people will die from breast cancer in the next 25 years.

As a woman and a mom of two, these statistics terrify me! I want to live a healthy and long life, be there to share special moments with my husband, and watch my sons grow up and start families of their own. For me and so many others, developing breast cancer is a scary thought. However, there are thousands of people banning together in hope for a cure. This spring the Race for the Cure is coming back to Boise. Here's how you can help:

In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure, you can register for the Boise run for only $20 for the next 20 days. This is a great opportunity to get out in the community, stay fit and healthy, and support a great cause!

Every year participants in the Susan G. Komen Race help raise funds for breast cancer research. This money helps women detect, prevent, and treat breast cancer, especially deadly metastatic cancer. It also helps to provide patients with low-cost or no-cost screenings, diagnosis, and treatment.

The 2018 fundraising goal for Boise is $100,000. The amazing thing about this race is that 75% of all dollars raised stays right here in Idaho and goes to cover mammograms for un-insured and under-insured men and women in our state.

I challenge you to add an extra $5 (or more!) to your registration fee (since it's such an amazing deal right now) AND ask a friend to join you on the #Mix106Radio team!
