Everyone who has attended school has had to endure the obligatory fire drills.  It's better safe than sorry, so our school kids need to be ready just in case.  But the fire drill isn't the only drill schools go through during the year.  My grade school had an Atomic bomb drill.  I'm not kidding.  There was even a film we had to watch.

I went to school at a time when the cold war was raging between the U.S. and Russia.  So there was always the fear of a nuclear attack.  But it was nice to know that I could be perfectly safe by remembering their little song "Duck and Cover".

(See Video of how to correctly Duck and Cover to save yourself from Nuclear annihilation.)

Kate, growing up in Colorado had tornado drills in her school and another woman we work with, grew up in Challis, Idaho and they had earthquake drills.

I saw a Facebook post yesterday, from a buddy that I used to work with in Stockton, California and he was talking about a scary new drill that happened in his daughter's school.  It was called an "Active Shooter Drill".  It was a drill to practice what everyone should do, in case a gunman ever entered a school and started shooting.

With all the school shootings we've experienced over the past 5 years, I understand the need to be prepared, but it's still very sad.
