So you just graduated from High School, Congrats. What's the one thing you want to do first? Plan your next semester starting at Boise State University or maybe the U of I? Oh come on man..give me some time to enjoy the no school thing, you more than likely are thinking. Ok I get that, but planing early can make for an easy transition during the summer months.

Believe me the minute I graduated from Timberline High School here in East Boise the last thing on my mind was where and what I was doing the following fall. Looking back on it now though I sure wished I would have planned a bit better. It would have made my High School to University experience a tons easier. I've compiled a list of 6 must do things that you SHOULD get out of the way before the first day of class in the fall. Best of luck..soon to be grads and incoming freshman. -JD

Start A Job Search And Save Your Money

Say WHAT? Yeah I know sounds crazy but lets face it, going to University is expensive. And getting that free ride we had during High School is more than likely not going to happen again. Mommy and Daddy are wonderful, but there is an end to the money train. So finding your own job and earning a bit of extra cash before school starts will be super helpful. Save it and see. This will come in handy.

Get To Know The School You Are Attending

Getting to know where you are going to be spending the majority of your time in the fall is not a stupid thing. The sooner you get closer acquainted to what your life will the following four years the better. Find that great spot on campus you feel comfortable in. Talk to the students who are still here and learn the secrets to University. The Administration Offices are open pretty much at all times during the summer, and they want to help freshman and returning students. Use this resource its incredibly valuable. If you get the chance to spend the night on campus DO IT!!! The Administration as well as the Housing Division and Greek Organizations will get you set and ready to go.

    Register For Your Classes

The earlier the better. These classes fill up so crazy fast. I remember waiting until the first week of August to get my classes set up and lost out on the majority of the ones I wanted. Talk to your Adviser they are there to help. Not just the students but parents can call then and they can help guide everyone down the best direction for those first new classes. Reaching out to Professors is also not a bad idea. Don't think they will be annoyed, they more than likely will see how eager you are to get into their class and remember you come fall. There is a limit to the amount of contact you should have with them over the summer months though, lets know get all stage 5 clinger status. If you go to Boise State reach out to the Registrars office HERE. Just to hook you up...here is the Under Grad Catalog for next fall at BSU.

    Go On A Road Trip

It is still Summer. So enjoy as much as you can before classes start again in the fall. Taking a road trip is the perfect way to see some of the coolest places in Idaho with out breaking the bank. Most big cities are no more than 6 hours away. From Boise to Portland is a day trip, Boise to Salt Lake under 5 hours, or even heading up north and taking in an afternoon White Water Rafting on the Salmon River. Even something as simple as heading to McCall and taking a boat out on the lake and enjoying the annual 4th of July Celebrations will keep you falling in love with "Idahome" even more.

Buy Your Books And University Shirts Early

Oddly one of the coolest and most gratifying things about entering this new phase once you leave High School is buying your new text books and getting all the University T-Shirts and Hoodies. The college book store was like a candy store for me, don't get me wrong it was a insanely expensive candy store but it helped me get ready for the upcoming semester. I felt like I was now a part of the University. Slide on those new colors and you will instantly have school spirit. Now the books will set you back a tad bit, but if your financial aid and scholarship situation is taken care of you.. are golden.
