With everything going on in our country right now, it's hard to know what we can do to help. It's also a hard, but necessary, conversation to have with our son. He hears a lot of what is happening and has his own questions. We try to answer them as honestly as possible for his age and what we feel he can handle, without causing more fear or nightmares for his little mind. We want him to enjoy his childhood and be a kid, but also be aware of the reality of the world that we live in. To be aware of his surroundings and understand that the world is a different place now than the one we grew up in.

Jaden is 12 years old. He asked if he could make something for our local police. I asked him what he had in mind and he had an idea, but we consulted Pinterest for some help.

We ran down to our trusty craft store and after I made a badge template for him, he did the rest. He cut out several police badge shapes out of black cardstock, glued a blue line to the front, and wrote in a silver sharpie, "Thank you for your service". He also asked if we could buy a large back of candy for them to put in their break room.

We decided to visit one precinct in the Treasure Valley each day this week. Today, we stopped by the Garden City Police Department off Chinden.

He was met by two very nice officers who seemed to be very grateful and moved by his gesture. They shook hands and he left with a junior officer badge sticker and feeling good about sharing his support and appreciation.
