A new high-tech fitness studio opened up this week in Boise, and it gives each member a smart code to plug in at the machines for a personalized workout.  And you might need just two 20-minute workouts a week.

It's a concept that's catching on around the country.  A “smart-gym” relies on computers and robotics instead of traditional equipment like weights and treadmills. And as of Monday, Boise has a new spot to plug in this fresh, new workout strategy.

Boise residents Scott and Sommers opened up their first location of The Exercise Coach on Monday, and it's at 125 North Stierman Way, Suite B, in Eagle.

When members join this gym, they receive a code that's unique to them, and when they plug it into a machine it recognizes their strengths and weaknesses in real time to help them get the most out of workouts and avoid injury.

The Exercise Coach says it will "measure each client’s capabilities, motivate ideal effort, and manage successful personal fitness transformation."  With efficiency being the goal, you might be able to get in all you need with just two 20-minute workouts per week.  And you could give up that fitness tracker on your wrist that constantly reminds you of how much farther you need to go.

Whaddya think?  Is traditional fitness equipment becoming outdated?  I do enjoy feeling winded on the treadmill for an hour.  And cycling on the stationary bike is great when I want to check email and text while I'm working out.  But maybe shorter is better.  Technology has made everything faster, and maybe workouts are the next thing to be overtaken by the Twitter effect.

Smart gym owners say it boils down to the quality of the workout.  If the intensity is up for twenty minutes and you're doing what's right for you, that's all your body needs.

If we really can reach our max workout potential in twenty minutes, we'll quickly be losing the "I don't have time" excuse, right?  A twenty-minute workout would be easy to work in over a lunch hour, between classes at Boise State, or after the kids go to bed.

I'm totally curious about this, so if you try it, let me know what you think!  And good luck to these locals on the cool new endeavor.
