The Father of Football is celebrating another big birthday this week, and he's celebrating with a generous gift that you may have helped pay for. Happy birthday coach!

Lyle Smith coached at Boise Junior College—now Boise State University—from 1947 to 1967 and stacked up a pretty amazing record of 156–26–6 in that time.  He's the school's all time wins leader.  Smith was also the head basketball coach at BJC for one season in the 1940s.  He can do it all.

Boise State unveiled a statue last fall honoring Coach Smith, and it seems fans are always looking for ways to honor him and thank him for all he's done.  A recent crowd-sourcing campaign bought him a brand new wheelchair!

Dan Lukehart is a BSU Alum and played under Coach Smith, and said on GoFundMe that he wanted to do something to give back to the coach, and a new Power Chair would improve his mobility.

In organizing the effort, Lukehart said the invoice cost of the chair was $3675.20.  It didn't take long to come up with that and more. The campaign raised over $4000 back in February, and US Bank issued a check to Smith for any remaining funds after the wheelchair was paid for.

So, enjoy the new wheels for your birthday, Coach Smith, and thanks for all you've done for football in the Treasure Valley over the years.  May 101 be your luckiest number yet.
