Following a series of well-publicized incidents, actor Josh Brolin has entered rehab for substance abuse, Us Weekly reports.

The 'Gangster Squad' star, 45, checked into a facility in North California recently, the magazine states. "He realized he needed help and is committed to his sobriety," a source reveals.

Earlier this month, Brolin was caught on film in two separate drunken scuffles on the same weekend. Asked later by TMZ if he regretted the fights, he replied, "Absolutely, it won't be happening again."

The reporter pressed on, asking, "Are you going to be laying off the booze a bit?" Brolin answered, "That's it. Completely done."

The actor started 2013 in jail, after his New Year's Day arrest on public intoxication charges in Santa Monica, Calif. The most recent incidents include a bar fight in Santa Monica and a verbal altercation with a cab driver in a Los Angeles drive-thru.

Previous run-ins with the law include a 2004 misdemeanor battery charge following an argument with his now-estranged wife, Diane Lane, and a 2008 bar fight in Louisiana.

His next film, dramatic thriller 'Labor Day,' hits theaters in limited release starting on Christmas Day.
