Canine Companions for Independence is one of the coolest organizations that I've ever had the pleasure to work with! They give the gift of independence to those with disabilities and change lives with these amazing dogs.

Canine Companions perform things we take for granted like, opening doors, or turning on a light. They'll alert the deaf and hard of hearing of important sounds, pull wheelchairs, and help with  cognitive and developmental disabilities.

It cost $40,000 to train one Canine Companion. It takes at least 2 years of training and not all dogs graduate. This is a very extensive program and only the best of the best are placed with those in need. The person receiving the dog does not have to pay for their companion.
