Camps and activities over the summer to keep kids busy can be costly and add up quickly. Research shows parents plan to spend an average of $958 per child on summer expenses!

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County are filling a need in the Treasure Valley. There are four camp locations open for the summer. The cost to send a child for the entire summer is just $25.

Parents of children in the camp say it eases their mind knowing they are taken care of and having a good time. The low cost includes meals and various activities. Field trips are also offered.

Another option for parents is the various parks and recreation departments. From Boise, to Meridian, to Caldwell, there are low-cost or free options for childcare through scholarships.

Just like the Boys and Girls Clubs they provide a lot of different opportunities for kids to continue being engaged when school is out.

When it comes to leaving your kids home alone during the summer, Idaho does not have a law setting a minimum age. Experts suggest 12, but local police tell us it all depends on the child's maturity level and if you have family or neighbors available to help the child if needed.
