Olivia is the most popular baby name in America for girls right now, and it's Asher for boys.

But leave it to Idaho to be a little independent about all that and resist the trends.  It looks like we've got other baby naming ideas in mind.

The baby naming website, Nameberry, has come out with its list of the most popular baby names so far in 2017, and we see that there are a lot of traditional names making a comeback.

Hearing names like Clara, Adelaide, and Matilda makes us girls think we need to be putting on pioneer dresses and eating meals from the chuckwagon, but those are hot baby names right now, and will show up in kindergarten classes soon.  For boys, traditional names like Henry, Harry, and Harrison are making a comeback.

The Today Show says these are some of the top baby names in America so far in 2017, according to Nameberry,

For GIRLS:

1. Olivia

2. Amelia

3. Charlotte

4. Isla

5. Isabella

6. Ava

7. Aurora

8. Evelyn

9. Penelope

10. Eleanor

For BOYS:

1. Asher

2. Atticus

3. Jack

4. Ezra

5. Theodore

6. Milo

7. Jasper

8. Oliver

9. Silas

10. Wyatt

Here?  Not so much.

There are a couple of consistent top ten names, especially on the boys' list, but for the most part Idaho is independent about naming kids and doesn't follow the herd.  These are the most popular baby names here based on 2016 birth certificates, according to the Social Security Administration, along with the number of babies born in Idaho with those names.

1 Oliver 117 Emma 118
2 Liam 109 Olivia 102
3 Mason 93 Harper 82
4 James 88 Abigail 74
5 William 88 Ava 70
6 Wyatt 84 Evelyn 70
7 Lincoln 82 Charlotte 69
8 Noah 80 Elizabeth 66
9 Henry 74 Emily 61
10 Grayson 70 Amelia 57

Whaddya think?  Does Idaho win the baby naming competition?

We've learned some things with this exercise -- more than just that Idaho continues to make good choices in life.  Youth baseball and softball rosters have never sounded better.  And girls whose names end with the letter "A" are about the rule the world!  You go girls.  And Ashers and Atticuses too.
