I honestly am not one who is crazy emotional. There are only a few things that can make me sob. A dog movie is one of them and then there is this.

My family runs deep in military service. My uncle was a pilot in the Air Force during the first Iraq War, my Grandpa was in the Navy during Korea and my baby brother is currently serving in the Navy. I am incredibly proud of our families commitment to keeping this country safe. And for all the men and women who serve and protect I feel like they deserve so much from all of us state side. This past weekend was filled with do it yourself home projects, so the trip to Home Depot was a must. As we pulled up we all noticed the signs the lined the side of the parking lot.

As we walked by my son Jaden asked me if i was okay. He noticed that I stopped and looked at each of these and my eyes filled up a little bit. I told him how proud I am of our service men and women and how proud I am of his Uncle for serving in the United States Navy.

There are an estimated 1.8 million Purple Heart Recipients who have returned home from war and started the transition back into civilian life. What I tried to explain to my boy is that these battle hardened men and women sometimes have a harder time adjusting to life on their return trips from war. He had a bit of a hard time understanding why a parking space was reserved for them. As a parent and a sibling of service man its my job to teach and educate him. I take great honor in this and what just melts my heart is letting him know why we should open those doors for our vets, appreciate them and constantly thank them for their service. He is learning and that makes proud. I am proud of the veterans of Idaho who deserve more than just a few parking spaces in front of a hardware store, but if that's the least we can do then I'm grateful to see at least this.
