This is scary stuff for those who travel often, or if you are planning to travel for the upcoming holiday weekend. Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity.

A male passenger traveling through the Boise Airport was cited after TSA officers found an unloaded gun in a carry-on bag at the security checkpoint.

Officials say a .380 caliber Glock 42 pistol and 13 rounds of ammunition were in the bag of a man with a ticket to Denver.

The image of the gun was visible on the X-ray screen. TSA notified the Boise Police Department and the passenger was cited on a state charge of “weapon at a checkpoint.”

This isn't the first time of an incident like this happening at the Boise Airport or others around the country. TSA has found more than 1,200 guns at airport security checkpoints.

The Transportation Safety Administration wants to remind travelers that firearms, ammunition, firearm parts and realistic replicas of firearms are always prohibited in carry-on baggage. However, these items can be transported in checked baggage if the traveler declares them during the ticket counter check-in process.

In addition to facing local or state criminal charges, travelers could face civil penalty of up to $7,500.
