No shopping on Thanksgiving Day at the stores on this list.

They'll be closed Thanksgiving Day, and will open their doors later in the shopping weekend.

REI announced a few weeks ago that they would be closed on Black Friday, which made some history and got people talking.

The stores on the list below will be open on Black Friday, but have announced they'll be closed Thanksgiving Day, to give us plenty of time to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and football, eat twice our normal daily intake, and dodge the latest relationship questions from crazy Aunt Linda.  Perhaps you'd rather shop!  But there will be time for that later in the weekend.

BestBlackFriday.com says these stores are among the ones that have announced they'll be closed Thanksgiving Day:

Locally owned Ace Hardware Stores

AT&T retail stores

Barnes & Noble

Bed Bath & Beyond

Cabela’s

Costco

Dillard’s

DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse

Hobby Lobby

Home Depot

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores

Lowe’s

Marshalls

Petco

PetSmart

Pier 1 Imports

Sam’s Club

Sierra Trading Post

T.J.Maxx

Don't worry diehards.  Plenty of stores will be open at some point on Thanksgiving Day, including Walmart, Target, and Toys R Us.

Oh, and don't forget about that internet!  You can shop right there in your pj's and fuzzy slippers, with a turkey sandwich and a glass of red wine in hand. Most stores are expected to have the same sales online that they have in stores.  And for that we issue our yearly apology to UPS, the US Mail, and FedEx.  Happy holidays!
