Maybe it's the lack of snow, but I'm finding it a little difficult to get into the Christmas spirit this year. One thing that always helps get me out of my holiday funk is creating traditions with my husband and kids that I can look forward to each year. This year I've been keeping my eyes peeled for some new ones to share with you. Here are 5 fun traditions to start with your family this season:

Do a Christmas Light Tour
Make a list or use our map, HERE, of the best Christmas light displays in town and take your loved ones on a drive! The app, Route4Me (available on the App Store), can help you plan the best route.

Have Brunch in the Snow
Brew a Thermos of coffee, grab a box of donuts and head out to the mountains (we picked Bogus Basin) for brunch in the snow. Eat on the tailgate (or in front of the fireplace at Bogus' Nordic Center) and make a snowman with your kids or significant other!

Host a Christmas Movie Night
Grab some blankets, a bowl of popcorn, and a few cups of hot cocoa and settle in for your family's favorite Christmas movie (ours is ELF!). Having trouble deciding on a movie? Wrap up your favorite DVDs and choose one at random.

Start a Gingerbread House Competition
Grab a few gingerbread house kits, icing, and boxes of candy at your local grocery store. Set up a station at the kitchen table for your kids or friends to decorate. Have a designated judge and prizes for the best house!

Have a Grinch Day
Come up with your best Whoville inspired outfit and hairdo and read the classic Dr. Seuss book with your kids.
