First Time Driving to Reno, Any Advice?

I know it's only 6 hours away but I am curious on the drive to Reno, NV? I love asking those that drive places frequently or have recently driven it what it's like and what to expect.

I know I go through some high desert mountains and areas, there is snow in some places I have seen already. Is the drive dangerous? There are two ways to go from Boise but one adds an extra hour and a half.

So I am going down through Paradise Valley area in Nevada, which gets a bit of snow and wind at times from what I have been reading. I am heading to fly fish, so it's all worth it but I also want to be safe and can be a worry wart.
