Don’t Get Buried or Cremated When You Die, Get Planted Instead

When you die, have you thought about whether you want to be buried in a casket or do you want to be cremated and have your ashes spread somewhere?  There soon may be an alternative.  How about being planted, like a tree?

This is completely different and very unique way to be buried. This method is happening right now only in Italy and is titled The Capsula Mundi project.

The designers created a biodegradable burial capsule that eventually allows for the body of  the deceased to be transformed from a corpse into a tree. As the body decomposes inside it’s organic pod, it turns into nutrients for the tree that is growing from the remains.

The pods are made from an organic starch type plastic which will slowly decomposes over time transforming into minerals that will provide nutrients for the tree to grow

If it does take off, instead of seeing cemeteries full of headstones and graves, you could see big cemetery forests.

Just think, someday you could visit a dead relative in Shady Acres Cemetery National Forest.
