The first step to opening the Boise River for recreation could be happening over the next few days.

A number of agencies including the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Boise Fire Department, and Ada County Parks and Waterways met today to prepare for cleaning up the river, potentially Thursday or Friday.

Water levels could drop as soon as tomorrow which allows the cleanup work to commence.  That doesn't guarantee an opening this weekend though, since there can be challenges during the cleanup process.

The cleanup process removes snags and various debris from the most popular areas to float.
