Fire crews have put out a large wildfire that threatened homes near The Gorge Amphitheater in Washington. The fire poses no further risk to the public and that all evacuation notices have been canceled.

In total, the Sunland Fire burned 600 acres of dry grass and sage since it began Sunday afternoon. Officials say the blaze was sparked by a campfire that grew out of control.

This weekend marked the beginning of wildfire season. Temperatures are expected to rise this week to near 100 degrees and fire officials say hotter weather means higher risk for hazardous conditions.

The Boise Fire Department says the first thing anyone should do before lighting a campfire is to make sure that those fires are permitted in the area at that time. The areas where fires are allowed change frequently, so fire officials urge people to pay attention to posted warnings.

Also, officials say it’s important to only light fires in controlled fire rings and make sure there are no tree limbs or other overhead obstructions. Make sure the fire is attended at all times.

The Boise Fire Department said that although things look very green across the region right now, it only takes a couple of days of extreme temperatures for things to dry out.
