Kids! Mama Got Roped Into Getting Another Pet.

Kids always want a pet it seems.  My three daughters seem to rotate the duty of asking for a new pet, even though we have a miniature schnauzer named Harry and he's a good boy and not in danger of losing his role in the family.  When I point out that we could just settle in and be content with Harry, they inevitably ask, "Ok, but when Harry dies, can we have a cat?"

I don't know whether to be upset, or just be thankful that they are forward-thinkers who are already planning for the future and setting lofty goals.  It's the little things.

I finally caved and bought a fish.  I too love aquatic life and supported the girls in their $4 decision to invest in Maddox the Betta.  But here's why I'm having pet regret.

What Are the Worst Profile Pics? If You’re An Online Dater, I Know You’ve Seen These!

This is kind of a cute picture, and would work mighty fine as a profile pic on dating sites.  Don't you think ladies?

I don't mind a bit when guys post workout photos as the first profile pic we see on the dating sites.  I know they're going to be active and fit, and they might even drink one of my spinach-kale-romaine-pear-apple-strawberry-lemon green smoothies with me.  Okay, maybe that's too much to expect. But I do love a good bicep and I want them to show it.

What profile pics drive you absolutely nuts?  I've got a list!  Please add to it.

Is ‘Thigh Gap Therapy’ Awesome or Crazy?

Kids have it so easy during the summer.  They have no bathing suit worries.  And we love them for it!

When it comes to us gals....we're full of confidence in the bathing suit, right? Whatever! Most of us ladies worry about how we look in a bathing suit, and if we act like we don't care, deep down inside somewhere we probably do.

There's a place in Dallas, TX that I read about that's doing what's called "Thigh Gap Therapy," where part of the inner thigh is zapped with a laser to create more daylight there. A Dallas TV station documented one woman's experience with it, and she said even though she works out and eats healthy, she still has an issue with her thighs.

Ladies, would you do it?

Why IS QVC So Fascinating?

I've never been a QVC person, but the other day I flipped over there to see if I could put my finger on what was so great about it, and I got hooked!  I mean hooked.  That didn't take long.  Do you watch?

And now, any time there is a lull at my house (which is rare with three kids), I flip over to QVC to see what those gals are pitching next.  It's not just shopping; it's entertainment too.  I'll watch for an hour even if they're selling lawn chairs that I don't want.  Either I'm crazy or they are geniuses.  Or both.

I have yet to buy anything, but I'm about to cave on the "anti-aging lip gloss."  Who doesn't need that?!  Don't we all need younger lips?!  Sure!  Nice work, QVC.

After two short weeks watching QVC, I've figured out why it's so addicting.

See You At Idaho’s Largest Garage Sale This Weekend!

My grandma, Si, used to have a garage sale every Memorial Day weekend at the lake cabin where she lived in rural Nebraska, and people came from all over to sift through the treasures.  It was one of those block-party garage sales, so dozens of other houses nearby sold stuff out of their garages too.  It was fun!  I cleaned out my room as a teen and sold as much stuff at the sale as I could.  People snatched up my old Olivia Newton John and Eddie Rabbit cassettes.  Stop doing the math...I'm not that old.

Grandma put some delightful little trinkets on a net-less ping pong table and sold them for 5, 10, or 25 cents each.  Like used frozen dinner trays that had been washed and stacked on top of each other.  Who in the heck would buy that stuff after someone ate fried chicken and microwaved pudding off of it?!  Lake people in Nebraska who needed a plastic plate with dividers in it, that's who!  Haha!  I still marvel at that. Grandma would also rake in the quarters selling stacks of old National Geographic Magazines and packets of jelly that she lifted from restaurants and never used.  My granny was a thrifty thing, and had quite a bit of money when she died...probably from her genius ability to market her wares at these garage sales.

If you find any grape jelly packets tomorrow at Idaho's Largest Garage Sale, be sure and let me know!  You and I will honor my late Grandma's memory together.
