Subway Restaurants are planning to close an estimated 500 locations in the U.S. over the coming months. That's in addition to the nearly 900 locations they closed last year.

While that’s bad news for US consumers who like Subway, it's good news for Subway lovers abroad, as the change is happening to allow over 1,000 new locations to be built around the world including countries like Mexico, South Korea, India, and China.

Subway claims they've been closing operations on locations that haven't proven to be successful over the past two years due to increased competition.

There are currently over 26,000 locations in the US alone. According to the Subway website, they're the largest restaurant chain in the world with an estimated 44,000 locations in 112 countries.

Will any Subway locations in the Treasure Valley be on the chopping block? Only time will tell as Subway declined to name which stores in what states would be facing elimination.
